One year

Look! We’re “cartooned”!

One year ago today, I met the boy I’m gonna marry (I’m singing that one song right now, can you tell? No? What, was I not specific enough? You know! That one song.) Who would have thought one night (of many, many nights) at Lucy’s would lead to ALL THIS?! Sometimes I still can’t believe it myself! Ah, but lucky me, ’tis true. So, in the spirit of the occasion, I’m going to tell you how meeting this fella has enriched my life in just the short span of one year. Can you imagine what this blog post will be like in five years? Or, holy shit, in like 50?! Wow, I am one lucky lady!

So, in case you didn’t already know, I am not necessarily an easy girl to handle. I wear my high-maintenance hat proudly, though. Sure, I can be a little bratty at times, but by God, at least I own it! What’s great for me is that Chris always seems to play it off like it’s his pleasure to deal with me. What’s even better is that I really think he feels it is his pleasure. Awesome. Now, this is not to say that he doesn’t get a little brat-tastic his own self every once in awhile. But I definitely take the cake on this one and it’s nice to know that even on my worst days, Chris thinks I’m fabulous.

I can also be somewhat clumsy, forgetful, absent-minded, a ding-bat, you get the idea. There are times I can tell that if it were anyone but me, say, losing his camera by putting it in his own bag, and then finding it, and then losing it again last night, he might freak out. But if it’s me doing that, then he just tells me it’s fine, it’s no biggie, it’ll be okay. P.S. I’m hoping his camera is at Viv’s house, and not stolen by one of the fine patrons at Lucy’s. P.S.S. I am typing this blog from Chris’s computer right now, as I so lovingly threw mine across the room earlier, shattering the screen. Remember that part about clumsy? Yeeeaaahhh…

Chris just tried to lean over and read this, but I wouldn’t let him. He asked if I was posting “rugged and manly” things about him. I obviously am [not], so he asked that I post something rugged and manly. So, here goes R&M. He’s a car man. He changes the oil in my car and puts “wash cars” on the “Fun” portion of our Weekend To Do List. He’s even changed the axles and brakes on my car! He’s changed the oil in my friends’ cars. It’s nice to know that I’ve got a knowledgeable guy on my side whenever I need my car fixed or if I ever F-ing when I buy a new car.

Food. I don’t think this takes much explanation. I gained 40 pounds when Chris and I started dating. Yup, you read that right. Four to the zero. HAPPY POUNDS! The other night we were making dinner and Chris asked if what I thought about blue cheese green beans and I was all, “I was just going to ask you the EXACT SAME THING.” I couldn’t imagine being with someone who doesn’t love food as much as I do. Life is just better with good food and a good person to share it with.

A random smattering: He thinks pretty much anything I say is hilarious. I mean, it probably is, but you know 😉 He’s taught me more about music than I ever thought I’d know (but always wanted to.) He doesn’t care what anyone thinks, even when I’m doing that bad white chick dance, while rapping [poorly] to Snoop Dogg. He can quote movies like no one else I know, which is saying a lot, considering the crowd I run with (Jen, Michelle, I’m talking about you.) There are probably a thousand and ten more things I like about the dude, but I better save some of them for that 50 year post. In closing, though (and in the words of Bridget Jones – I told ya, we’re movie quoters!), he likes me just as I am. Not thiner. Not cleverer. Not with slightly bigger breasts or a slightly smaller nose. I. Am. Lucky.
