It’s kind of difficult getting into the Christmas spirit when you live in a place where it’s 70 degrees and sunny ALL YEAR LONG (note: this is in no way a complaint.) Hell, it’s even hard for me to remember it’s Christmas. Case in point: This past weekend, Chris and I were mailing our Christmas gifts off to the ‘rents and I looked up and saw a sign that said, 7 Shipping Days Left Until Christmas and I said, “Is it Christmas already?” (Yes, you would think I would have understood that since we were, uhh, mailing Christmas presents, but whatever.)
The past couple days, though, it has been raining cats and dogs, which, aside from denting the shit out of your car, has also put me in the Christmas spirit! So much so that I’ve even been inclined to listen to Christmas music while at work the past three days.
Even better, I’ve been live-streaming 101.5 KGFM from Bakersfield, because they’re the only station I could think of that plays Christmas music the entire month of December. So, in additon to hearing my holiday favorites (and “Feliz Navidad”), I have also gotten to hear all the Bakersfield advertisements. I’ve heard all about the BRAND! NEW! MARRIOTT! and, if you’re in need of a good bakery, I know of one across the street from BHS. (No joke, those were their directions.)
With Chris and I staying San Diego for Christmas this year (which, I’ll be honest, is FINE WITH ME), it has been nice hearing a little bit of “home” every day…Even if that means I come home singing “In by 11, ready at 4, Today Cleaners!”
i love 101.5 only in december. that gets me into the Christmas mood starting december 1st(that and sounds of the season channel in cable). those sappy letters they read on the air make me cry while i drive to the gym. sad. . . . but then happy.
and the local commercial… nice. the new marriot took over for holiday inn next to the convention center. when i worked at residence inn marriot like four years ago, they were already talking about that happening.
“across the street from BHS”…LOL, that is hilarious and so Bakersfield. Sometimes, I actually miss it! I don’t think I realized you were a Bakersfield girl…it’s a small bloggie world sometimes.
Oh yes… the bakery “across the street from BHS.” I’m assuming that’s across the street on the California Ave. side and not the H Str. side, yes? Nice directions.
I must listen to this radio station today now. I must.
and not today’s cleaners jingle is now in stuck in my head.
